Feliz octubre,

Halloween Spirit Day at CCE – Tuesday, October 31

CCE students will have an opportunity to wear a costume to school and in their classroom if they choose to (See Costume Guidelines below). We are not requiring anyone to participate in costume wearing, and if costumes cause a disruption in the classroom teachers may request the student to remove it. The goal is to not spend the day taking costumes off and on, they are permitted to wear them without minimal distraction to the school day. Teachers can have some differences in what activities they will be planning for their students, though please know that teachers will continue to proceed with their regular daily lessons and schedules while incorporating creative academic lessons or activities.

Reminder: All CCE students must be aware and mindful to NOT bring Halloween candies and foods with allergens especially nuts in the classroom. Eating is not permitted in the classroom.

CCE Halloween Parade, Monday, Oct. 31, 8:30 a.m. – 8:45 a.m., Playground

Kindergarten students do not participate in the parade. 1st-6th grade classrooms will be sitting along the perimeter of the playground track, so each grade-level at a time strolls 1 lap around the track. Parents are invited to take pictures and enjoy the Halloween parade and music.

Costume Guidelines

  • Wearing a costume for the day is optional.
  • Costume items may be available if classroom families help donate some to their student’s classroom.
  • Please follow district and school Dress Code policy, wear appropriate attire without indecency or gore.
  • Students must be identifiable throughout the day. Avoid face paint that completely disguises your facial appearance.
  • Choose a costume that is comfortable and allows for independent adjustments.

o Weapons, or costume accessories that look like weapons.
o Halloween masks must be left at home.
o Aerosol color sprays or glitter

Emergency Practice Drills This Week

CCE will be practicing two drills: Wed. 10/18 – Lockdown and Thurs., 10/19 – DJUSD Test Communication 10:00 a.m., and The Great California ShakeOut Earthquake Drill

Again, we appreciate parent/guardian cooperation to allow CCE staff to explain and practice the context of emergency procedures with their students first, followed by the practice, and a reflection of the schoolwide drill afterwards. This sequence helps children immensely. The children realize that it isn’t scary after all and that practicing safety drills is a necessary precaution. You can visit our DJUSD website here to learn more about the types of actions a school might take in the event of an emergency.
