CCE Pajama Reading Night and Spanish Book Fair
Our Wednesday, October 4 Pajama Reading was well attended with almost 250 students, siblings, and caregivers! Much appreciation to teachers and staff, Suzanne Hinton & Doro Taylor, Sra. Post, Maestra Monarrez, Sra. Blackstone, and Sra. McClintock for reading Spanish and bilingual books in pajamas! Many thanks to SIPAT for providing the milk and cookies and Sra. Haines and Sra. Jonas for organizing our first ever Spanish Book Fair!

It is a great honor to work with Bea and Emma each day at school. We appreciate their amazing teamwork, and commitment to our students, staff, and school. Our students and staff wrote many kind cards and shared gifts to recognize them on October 2, for National School Custodian Day.
Filipino American Heritage Month
The month of October commemorates the arrival of the first Filipinos who arrived in Morro Bay, California on October 18, 1587. Our CCE students also learn about Filipino Larry Itliong, an important labor organizer who fought for the rights of migrant farmworkers, and his role in the 1965-1966 strike and boycott against the California Delano grape growers and the subsequent founding of the UFW union.

Parent-Guardian Volunteers Still Needed
CCE welcomes 1st- 6th grade parent-guardian-caregiver volunteers to help out our CCE Programs and Clubs:
Recess/Lunch Program, (M-F) 11:40 a.m. - 1:10 p.m.
CARES Center Recess Games, (MWF) 11:40 a.m. - 1:10 p.m.
Lobos Activos, (T/Th), 1:10 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
CCE Clubs, (Before/After School)
In order to support and train volunteers for these programs, we ask that you review the CCE Volunteer Slide Show first CCE Parent Volunteer Training.pptx , and then complete this survey before signing up for any of our volunteer school programs. All CCE Parent/Guardian/Caregivers must check into our Raptor System prior to volunteering on campus for all on-campus programs, school events, and including field trips.
New Radios Arrive at CCE!
Muchas gracias, School Site Council and SIPAT for helping us fund to purchase 16 new Radios for classroom teachers and staff. CCE teachers received training last week by our District Safety Coordinator so that teachers have access to the our district and 911 radio systems when indoors or outdoors when they are at PE, recess, or any school event. We still need about 10 more and hope to continue to find funding sources to maximize our school’s safety during school operations. We will be using our new radios for our reschedule emergency drill practice, Lock Down Drill, on October 18.
DJUSD Attendance Handbook Now Available Attendance Handbook
Unfortunately, chronic absentee rates remain at an all-time high. Attendance Awareness Month in September-October is an opportunity to start the school year with information and resources that support local educational agency and school site efforts to successfully engage students. Please review the following Short-Term Independent Study Plan requirements:
- Please make sure to communicate with your child’s school attendance secretary, Suzanne Hinton ([email protected]) and teacher(s) at least 5 teaching days in advance before completing the STIS form (in our office) so the teacher may have time to prepare the assignments.
- STIS is approved for leaves between 3-10 days per occurrence and cannot exceed 10 consecutive days.
- STIS is limited to a maximum of 14 school days in one year.
DJUSD Governance Night: Tue., October 24, 6:00-8:00 p.m., Zoom
Calling all School Site Councils, Climate Committee, and English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) members to save the date for DJUSD Governance Night: Tuesday, October 24, 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Zoom. Come join our District partners, and fellow parents to build a deeper understanding of District DJUSD which supports student learning, school goals, and strengthen parents’ involvement at our schools.
