Information for incoming 6th graders.
Dear Families,
It's been an amazing and busy year of music making! Below are choices of instruments you children can take next year in music class. If your child participated in orchestra or band this past year and will continue on the same instrument they will be considered a "continuing" student. There is an added offering for them in the form of All-City Band and All-City Orchestra. If your child is starting or switching an instrument they will be considered a "beginning" student, at least for the fall.
Next year music lessons will continue in the form of pull-out instrumental lessons. Students will leave their classroom once per week, for 30-45 minutes, to attend a group lesson in the music room.
The instrument choices for 6th graders are:
String Orchestra instruments - Violin, Viola, Cello, and Double Bass
Band instruments - Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone (if taken clarinet before) Trumpet, Trombone, and Snare Drum
Ways to obtain an instrument:
1) Rent from a local music store (in Davis it's Watermelon Music - 530-758-4010)
2) Ask if family or friends have one you can borrow
3) Borrow one from the district. We have a limited amount of instruments available for families with financial constraints to borrow for the school year. (Sorry, we do not supply snare drums or saxophones) Please apply through the enrollment link.
Lessons will begin in September. You will hear from your music teacher once the lessons have been scheduled. (Sometime in the beginning of September) There is no need to obtain an instrument and materials until you hear from the music teacher. Enrollment will be open through August. However, we are encouraging students to enroll now before the busyness of the summer activities kicks in.

¡Ha sido un año increíble y ajetreado de hacer música! A continuación hay opciones de instrumentos que sus hijos pueden llevar el próximo año en la clase de música. Si su hijo participó en orquesta o banda el año pasado y continuará con el mismo instrumento, será considerado un estudiante "continuo". Hay una oferta adicional para ellos en forma de All-City Band y All-City Orchestra.
